2007 Nando Chianti Classico

Grape: 100% Sangiovese Grosso

Price: $13

This is the second variety I have tried from this producer, and the second time I have come away impressed. The fact that the Nando Brunello was so good was what caught my eye in the store. Then I turned it over to read the details and saw that this Chianti is actually made with 100% Sangiovese Grosso. This $13 Chianti Classico is made with the same grape as the big bad Brunello. Needless to say I bought two bottles. At first glance, the color looks more Brunello than Chianti, a bit more brown than the deep maroon of a typical Chianti. The aroma and taste are a beautiful blend of both however. While it does lack the complexity of a Brunello, it is more balanced than a traditional Chianti Classico…especially one for only $13.
